Hormosira banksii, a seaweed native to New Zealand and Australia, growing in a New South Wales south coast rockpool. This seaweed is also known as also known as Neptune’s necklace, Neptune’s pearls and – my favourite name for it – bubbleweed.
The sea snails are Black Nerite Nerita atramentosa, commonly known as black periwinkles.
This photo of Great Oyster Bay was taken at Swansea, Tasmania, the day before we ventured over to the Freycinet Peninsula (seen here across the bay) for a hike down to iconic Wineglass Bay. Tasmania is a huge source of inspiration for my fantasy fiction writing, with its beautiful, fierce wilderness and even fiercer convict history.
This sign is in a massive area of hardened lava down the Chain of Craters Road in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. It seemed so surreal, as well as giving a marker of just how much has been swallowed by the volcano.
